Corporate Partnership Opportunities
Corporations view health care costs as a liability. Chronic diseases such as diabetes consume a large burden of these costs. Statistics reveal that people with diabetes have 2.4 times higher medical expenses than those without diabetes. In addition, diabetes accounted for 88 million work days lost due to disability. A recent study of persons with diabetes demonstrated that physical activity counseling and subsequent increase of physical activity of 45 minutes/day resulted in decreased direct medical costs (expenses for medications, laboratory testing, hospitalization, and outpatient care) of $2000 annually. Corporate diabetes prevention and education through the WAVES diabetes program will improve these figures. Participation in the WAVES diabetes program will improve knowledge of healthy lifestyle practices that can be incorporated both in the workplace and continued at home.
The corporate benefits of employees attending the WAVES diabetes program include:
- Decreased healthcare expenditures
- Increased employee presenteeism
- Prevention of diabetes and diabetes related complications
- Increased employee knowledge of diabetes
- Increased self-management skills of employees with diabetes
Please contact us to discuss a partnership between WAVES diabetes and your corporation or agency. WAVES diabetes programs may be conducted during a cruise vacation, a land vacation, in the workplace, or in the community. Please see the resources section of DIRC for encouraging results from the research study being conducted as a part of the January 2006 WAVES diabetes program.
